Game 13: The Riesling Tasting:

The tasting no one wanted to do:

We tasted:

Cave Spring 2007 Riesling Beamsville Bench Jordan, Ontario 11% alc $18.00

Tawse Wisemer Vineyard 2007 Riesling Twenty Mile Bench Ontario 11% alc $25.00

Inniskillin "Two Vineyards" 2007 Riesling Niagara Peninsula 11% alc $18.00

Willm Riesling Reserve Alsace 2007 12% alc $17.00

Kuhlmann-Platz Hunawihr 2006 Riesling Alsace 12% alc $17.00

Louis Sipp Alsace Grand Cru Kirchberg de Ribeauville 2000 12.5% $73.00

---

Umm guys, Commish - no one numbered or lettered the wine bottles and as a result when they were removed from their bags there was no way for me to figure which wine was which.

So - we have tasting notes and the Commish's stats - but no results. Paul's scoring table looks like Sudoku to me.

Got to get better organized next time.

----

For those who've never been to Alsace to experience the great Rieslings (and a great part of the world), some video evidence:

Until the next beautiful tasting boys...

Blogged: Game 11: Zins

The bottles:

A. Ravenswood 2006 Barricia Zinfandel Sonoma Valley 15.5% alc $39.95.

B. Ravenswood Vintners Blend 2006 California Zinfandel 13.5% alc $17.95.

C. Chateau Montelena (Established 1882) 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 13.7% alc $51.95.

D. Beaulieu Vineyard (Since 1900) Napa Valley Zinfandel 2005 14.9% alc $25.95.

E. Perigquita 2005 Azeitao Portugal 13% alc $9.95.

F. Catena Malbec 2006 Mendoza Argentina (Fundada en 1902) 14% alc $19.95.

The Breakdown:

The most popular wine with a total of 15 points was the cheap Ravenswood Zin at $17.95 - but there were no first place votes for this wine. Four wineleaguers had it as their number two however.

A close second was the Beaulieu Zin at $25.95 with two first place votes from Father Kev and Johnny Moustache.

The least popular wine was the Ravenswood Barricia at $40 - the second most expensive wine. This wine also had the highest alcohol content.

As for the most expensive wine, the ledendary Chateau Montelena at $51.95 - John Vivant and Cristal Chambers had it at number one. Pinot Paul, the man who brought the wine and raved about its pedigree, had this wine as his least favourite.

Does this mean that Pinot lost this particular instalment of the Wine League? No, not at all. We don't lump people into winners or losers categories in our league. Let's just say that Pinot may have missed a line change with his assessment of the legendary wine.

Another interesting and fun tasting boys. Every time out I learn a little bit more about wine and everyone's weird sexual practices.

A pleasure to host as always...
